The fishing season for the Lake Tahoe Area and Truckee River is April 28th through November 15th. Local streams season is from July 1st through November 15th. Some of the more popular lakes that are open all year include; Lake Tahoe, Donner Lake, Boca Reservoir, Stampede and Prosser Reservoir. Tributaries to Lake Tahoe are open July 1 through September 30. No fishing is allowed within 300 feet of the tributaries.

Fishing is permitted anywhere on Lake Tahoe with either California or Nevada fishing license. No license required for those under 16.
